Once you have installed the Chrome plugin, feel free to click around and explore the app. The GREAT news is that it is very LOW RISK, meaning you will not lose any patient data, unexpectedly send a bill, or break anything.
The best place to begin is by typing, pasting, or dictating voice-to-text into the text box, and clicking SCAN. You will witness magic happening as our proprietary algorithm scans our tables for keywords that matches any of the info you provided. It then uses AI to make smart CPT/ICD bill code recommendations. Click on the duplicate icon to copy the codes and bring them back into your patient billing records.
You may also try the SEARCH tab, or for power users, the NCCI tab which validates multiple codes that must be / can’t be together.
Enjoy!
Most users prefer to leave the stethoscope icon (pictured below) which automates the copy+paste function, but if you would rather remove, please follow these steps:
- Open the 8th Element app by tapping on the icon in your Chrome Browser
- Click on the 3 horizontal “hamburger” menu in top right corner of your 8E app
- Toggle “Enable Text Selection” in order to enable/disable to icon.
Since no patient information is necessary for 8th Element to make smart bill code recommendations, we NEVER see or keep sensitive data. We are also certified HIPAA compliant and understand the sensitivity of handling personal information. Feel secure knowing that any patient data is never in contact with 8th Element.
Please note, we do keep track of usage data, as spelled out in our Privacy Policy
In short, the answer is NO. However, if you understand how artificial intelligence (AI) works, you know that the algorithm is constantly looking for context by scanning the relationship between all words, sentences and pages in order to make accurate predictions. The more content you provide, the longer the algorithm will take to process. Therefore, we encourage you to “chunk” out the notes in 1-2paragraph blocks in order to manage the code results.

For all Scan or Search results, you will see a list of identified Keywords, as well as any corresponding CPT / ICD code recommendations. If it is Billable, and CMS.GOV has a value associated with it in their (Medicare) fee schedule, it will be displayed. You may click on the Clipboard to copy any code in order to paste it back into your patient records.
Note: The codes are recommendations only and have no guarantee of payment based on your use of codes. All Terms & Conditions available here.
